Brenda J. Kerns, 77, of Mcleansboro, IL., formerly of Mahomet, IL., passed away surrounded by family on Friday, February 21, 2025, at 3:07 P.M., at Hamilton Memorial Hospital, Mcleansboro, IL.
Memorial services honoring the life of Brenda J. Kerns and son, Michael Cannon who passed away April 12, 2020, during the pandemic will be held at 1:00 P.M., on Saturday, March 1, 2025, at the Hinds Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 348 N. Piatt St., Bement. Pastor Pat Tieman will officiate. Following the service on Saturday, the family invites everyone to join them in celebrating the lives of both mother and son, at 2:00 P.M., at the Bement Community Center, 148 W. Bodman, Bement.
Brenda was born on July 4, 1947, a daughter of Howard and Violet Brewer Lietz. Surviving children are; Richard Foley, Kimberly (Scott) Woolridge, Michelle Shoemaker, Shannon (Robert Riggleman) Newell, 10 grandchildren; Gaige, Brianna, Dylan, Cole, Kyle, Kayla, Brandon, Aaron, Andrew and Dayton, as well as 8 great-grandchildren; Parker, Nova, Nash, Sage, Silvie, Makennah, Waylon and Tripp. Brenda is survived by 7 siblings; Donna Bruns, Sue (Jim) Harney, Carol (Danny) Gilbert, Glenda (Danny) Bates, Gloria Davis, Michael Lietz, and James (Sue) Lietz. Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, and son; Michael Cannon.
In 2019, Brenda retired from managing Lake of the Woods Bar & Liquors, fondly known by locals as Millie's in Mahomet. She loved the beach, coffee, sunshine, and was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs. Her grandson Gaige, lived with her most of his life so she was more like his mom even though he called her “Granny”. The past five years she developed a very strong and loving connection with Gaige's son, Parker.
