Obituary

Jeanette “Jan” Warner, 89, of La Grande, OR., formerly of Bement, IL., passed away on Sunday, May 21, 2023 in La Grande, OR.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 3, 2023 at 11:00 A.M., at the First Presbyterian Church, 1308 Washington Ave. in La Grande.

Jeanette Mae was born on June 20, 1933 in National City, MI., a daughter of Clarence Edward and Mildred Mae Schneider Curry. She was raised and educated in that area graduating from East Tawas High School with the class of 1950. On September 18, 1954, she was married to Lester Ray Warner at Zion Lutheran Church in East Tawas. They made their home in Bement, IL., before packing up and moving west, arriving in La Grande in April of 1970 and remained since. She was a secretary for the La Grande Fruit Company the later for Eastern Oregon Radiology for many years. Upon her retirement they presented her with an Alaskan Cruise which was one of the highlights of her life.

Jan, as she was known, and her husband were active members of the First Presbyterian Church of La Grande. She also belonged to Beta Sigma Phi, TOPS, and the American Legion Auxillary. Together they were active in the Order of the Eastern Star and where Worthy Matron and Patron in Cove when the Cherry Chapter gave up their charter. The Warners then joined Hope chapter in La Grande and remained active while their health allowed. Jan was an avid and accomplished bowler, competing in several national tournaments. On her way home from a tourney in Spokane she and a team member were caught in the ash fallout from the eruption of Mt. St. Helens. Jan also enjoyed fishing, and really enjoyed deer hunting because fall was her favorite season. She loved her many dogs, that were her family over the years.

Surviving relatives include her husband of nearly 70 years, Lester Warner of La Grande; a brother Gene Curry of Columbus, OH; nieces, nephews and other relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Marvin Curry and a sister Linda Fritz who died just a few weeks ago.
