John Andrew Benner

John Benner, 79, of Peru, IL., passed away at 12:09 A.M., Sunday, November 14, 2021, at OSF, St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria, IL., with his daughter by his side.

John was born on July 12, 1942, a son of Percy and Dorothy Benner in Danville, IL. John grew up in the Urbana area and graduated from Urbana High School. He attended Southern Illinois University, Carbondale and received his bachelor's degree in Forestry.

John worked for the State of Illinois in Forestry after graduation from SIU for numerous years, until he pursued a lifetime dream of opening his own restaurant. He owned and operated Bozo's Supper Club on 1st Street in LaSalle, IL., for over 5 years.

John is survived by his daughter, Cindi (Jimmie) Bentley of Bement, IL., 2 granddaughters, Carissa (Andy Parsons) Benner of Monticello, IL., Kymberly Bentley of Bement, IL., and great-granddaughter Tenley Parsons of Monticello. He is also survived by his step-daughter, Paula (Larry) Ziegler of Princeton, IL. Rob (Kevin) Heldebrand of LaSalle, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Sandra Benner, and a brother, Richard “Dick” Benner.

Cremation rites have been accorded and private family services will be held at a later date.
