Mary Ann Cavanaugh Freddy Rowe, was born in Chicago, Illinois, on June 20, 1937, to Leo and Vera Cavanaugh. At one year of age the family moved to Ivesdale, Illinois where her father took over the operation of the Cavanaugh General Store which later included a locker plant. Mary Ann attended grade school at St. Joseph in Ivesdale and was awarded a four-year scholastic scholarship to St. Mary Academy boarding school in Nauvoo, Illinois. She graduated from high school in 1955. She worked at the University of Illinois for one year before entering nurse's training at Mercy Hospital in Urbana, Illinois. She left nursing to marry Carl Freddy, who preceded her in death. Mary Ann spent most of her working years in hospitals. She retired as Director of Medical Staff Services at Alexian Brothers Hospital in San Jose, California in 1997. Mary Ann married Donald Rowe on her birthday on June 20, 2002. They moved St. George, Utah in August of 2003. Mary Ann and Don were active at the St. George Catholic Church. Mary Ann was a 3-year member and secretary of the church council. Mary Ann also volunteered at the St. George Catholic Church thrift store for several years.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her daughter Erin, son-in-law James and grandchildren Jessica and Nykole, who were killed in an automobile accident. Her son, Jim Freddy disappeared in July of 1987. Mary Ann was also preceded in death by her husband Don Rowe who passed away in May of 2022. She is survived by her son, Mike Freddy, daughter-in-law Connie, grandsons, Jacob (his wife Vikki), Nathan and great grandson Camren and her great granddaughters Arizona and Marley who live in Safford, Arizona. Her daughter, Ann Erett, son-in-law David and grandchildren Christopher, Kimberly and Callie who live in McDonough, Georgia.
A graveside celebration of life service will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Ivesdale on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at 2:00 P.M. Following the service, per Mary Ann's wishes, a small Irish wake will be held at the Blarney Stone, 207 Chapin St., Ivesdale.
