Dwight was born on February 26, 1949, in Champaign, IL., a son of Heral and Ruth Richmond Gregory. He married Judith Funk on June 15, 1969, in Monticello, IL., and she survives of Bement. Surviving are 2 sons; Joshua Dwight Gregory and Jeremiah (Jaime) Gregory, both of Bement. Also surviving are 5 grandchildren; Trinity Gregory, Selah Gregory, Judah Gregory, Zion Gregory and Mercy Gregory. Siblings; Duane (Trish) Gregory of Virginia, Darrell (Cathy) Gregory of Hudsonville, MI., and Dan (Beth) Gregory of Mt. Auburn, IL., as well as a sister-in-law; Karen Gregory of Decatur, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother: David Gregory and grandson; Justus Gregory.
Dwight was raised on the farm near DeLand, IL., with his parents and four brothers who were all active in the local church, working on the farm, tractor pulling and in sports. Dwight knew he was loved by the Lord and was saved by grace through faith at 8 years old. As he grew, Dwight was a committed student and teammate earning all state honors on offense and defense in football during his senior season where the Deland-Weldon High School team went 9-0. Dwight was also salutatorian of his granduating class. While Dwight was an outstanding athlete with Division 1 scholarship offers to play football, he felt called to serve the Lord from a young age and decided to pursue the ministry. Dwight attended Grand Rapids Baptist Bible College and Seminary in Grand Rapids, Michigan, graduating with a bachelor's degree in 1972 and his Master's of Divinity in 1976.
Dwight began dating Judi Funk when they were 16. They dated throughout high school and were married for 55 years! He loved his wife Judi, his sons, his daughter-in-law, treasured his grandkids, nieces and nephews and remained close to his brothers throughout his entire life. He really liked his Allis-Chalmers tractors and seeing his brother Dan tractor pull. He was welcoming, friendly, and loyal to all who called him friend. His impact and influence were wide reaching from his college and seminary days. He served churches as a Youth Pastor, Pastor, and interim Pastor. He farmed in Bement for more than 40 years. He enjoyed having coffee or sharing food with family and friends, and often joked about opening a restaurant. He enjoyed southern gospel music, especially good bass singers, and most recently fellowshipped at Crossroads Church in Bement.
He will be greatly missed. For all who are saddended by this news he would want you to know The Lord Jesus Christ loves you and is faithful. Bless you dear friends. You are dearly loved by The Lord Jesus Christ.
