Roger W. Marshall, 78, of Atwood, IL., passed away at 5:51 P.M.,on Monday, February 2, 2026, at his residence in Atwood, IL.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 1:00 P.M., at the Hinds Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 348 N. Piatt St., Bement. The Rev. Marsha Frederick will officiate. Military rites will follow the services outside the funeral home by the Albert Parker Ameican Legion Post #620, Bement. Visitation will be held from 11:00 A.M., until time of services on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis, South Dakota at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made to Albert Parker American Legion Post #620, Bement. Following the services on Tuesday, there will be a meal provided at the Albert Parker American Legion Post #620, Bement, at 2:00 P.M.
Roger was born on October 29, 1947, in Monticello, IL., a son of Charles E. and Cora Mosser Marshall. He married Laurel “Laurie” Cooper on August 8, 2001. He is survived by his wife, Laurie; sisters Barb Holt and Nancy (John) McCullough; children Debbie (Bob) Good, Chad (Anne) Marshall, Cindy (John) Geib, and Cheri (Tom) Petroski. He is also survived by grandchildren Cole, Alex, Kyleigh, Trigg, Gavin, Sagen, Gunnar, Thomas, Cooper and Sean, as well as great-grandchildren Cillian, Sutton and Nova. He was preceded in death by his parents, niece Donna Holt, and brother-in-law Dave Holt.
Roger graduated from Bement High School in 1965. He worked at Dingy Plumbers Gas Station out of high school, then was drafted into the Army. Roger served in Vietnam and was the recipient of the Purple Heart award. He finished his time in the Army in Fort Polk, Louisiana. After returning home from service, he began his career with the US Post Office as a letter carrier, later transitioning into vehicle maintenance as a mechanic, performing vehicle accident investigations, and ultimately retiring as supervisor of the Vehicle Maintenance Facility in Champaign.
Roger was a skilled woodworker, shooting and firearm enthusiast. He was a Mason 33rd degree, member of the American Legion and Shriners, and a lifetime member of the Amvets. Roger was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Bement.
